Factors and Procedures Used in Admissions

Full-time MBA program

Our Admissions Committee takes an entirely holistic approach to candidate evaluation for the Full-Time MBA Program at Chicago Booth. The Admissions team considers everything a candidate submits in order to build a full understanding of the applicant and to assess their potential for impact with a Booth MBA. In terms of specific application components, at the time of submission we ask for a self-reported GMAT or GRE score (we do not have a preference which you submit), academic transcripts, professional resume/CV, responses to the essay questions, two letters of recommendation, and an English language proficiency test score if applicable. A candidate who advances to the next stage of the application process is invited to interview with us, either with a current student on campus or with an alumnus/a in their area. We then incorporate the interview report into the entire evaluation when making a final decision. Throughout the application and interview, we seek to understand an applicant’s authentic story, as well as how a Chicago Booth MBA fits into their professional goals and vision. No two candidates are alike, and we find that compelling applicants draw natural connections between their individual ambitions and how they plan to engage within the Booth community during their two years and beyond.

Executive MBA program

Chicago Booth’s Executive MBA Program is global. Students are admitted to their primary campus in Chicago, London, or Hong Kong, and during the program, they spend time at each locale, with their international counterparts. Each campus seeks to enroll between 75 and 90 students. Essays, resume/CV, transcripts from prior post-secondary institutions attended, and two letters of recommendation are required. An Executive Assessment (EA), GMAT, or GRE score is also required. The Executive MBA Program does not require TOEFL nor IELTS. Personal interviews are conducted by invitation. After admission, a letter of company support for the time commitment is required. Students are expected to be working full-time. The program cost for the Chicago campus is $194,000 for the cohort entering 2020. The London and Hong Kong campuses have slightly different program costs.

Part-time MBA program

The Evening MBA and Weekend MBA programs have rolling admissions and multiple intakes throughout the year. The admissions review process parallels that of the Full-Time Program. In evaluating applicants to Chicago Booth, the Admissions Committee considers a candidate’s fit with The Chicago Approach, culture, and community, as well as their potential for success in school and beyond. Through the application and interview, we seek to better understand an applicant’s story, as well as how a Chicago Booth MBA fits into his/her vision. Tuition is $7,344 per course (a total of 20 courses are required to earn an MBA, plus LEAD, a leadership exploration and development class).

Curricula Descriptions

Full-time program

At Chicago Booth, students have the freedom to build out the curriculum to meet their exacting needs. Instead of being locked into a set path, students at Booth choose the courses that best 􀀁t their unique goals. This flexibility is distinctive to a Booth education and is part of what makes a Booth MBA so powerful. Being able to choose your coursework every quarter allows students to be nimble as well as maximize their time. We only have one required course that all students must complete called Leadership Effectiveness and Development (LEAD). Past that, students select one course each in the three foundations of accounting, microeconomics, and statistics; however, they choose the level of the course, so they can build on their previous education and take more advanced classes from day one if desired. Students also take six courses in management (decisions, people, strategy), business functions (finance, marketing, operations), and business environment—again, in a level of their choice. The remaining 11 courses are electives, encouraging students to explore their unique areas of interest. Students can take up to six classes across the University of Chicago.

Executive program

The Executive MBA Program is a general management program designed for senior professionals looking to complement their experience with an MBA. The EMBA curriculum builds a strong foundation in the fundamental tools of business, unlocks how leaders can apply those tools to timely, real-world challenges, develops leadership skills, and integrates key concepts in an experiential capstone course. In addition to the required courses, students select four elective courses of their choice. All students are taught by the same award-winning Chicago Booth faculty, whether they are taking classes in Chicago, London, or Hong Kong. During time spent together in the international sessions, students broaden their global perspective and enrich their professional networks.

Part-time program

The part-time programs offer working students the same flexible curriculum taught by the same faculty as the Full-Time Program, and part-time students are held to the same degree requirements as full-time students.
