TRANSFORMING EDUCATION A world-class university in the world’s most liveable city, Victoria University (VU) ranks in the top 2% of universities worldwide and 56 in the world’s top 200 universities under 50 years. With more than 100 years’ experience in teaching, learning and research — 26 of them as a university — our reputation for quality is entrenched in our commitment to being open and excellent. Striving for an agile, dynamic and innovative future, in 2018 we became the first and only university in Australia to teach undergraduate degrees subject-by-subject, disrupting the traditional mode of simultaneous course delivery – with proven results. In another Australian-first, our long-time industry partner SAP, a multinational software corporation with over 335,000 customers in 180 countries worldwide, chose VU to house Australia’s first SAP Next-Gen Lab. The lab connects students with industry to find solutions for real-world business problems of the 21st Century, placing VU gradates at the pinnacle of the global workforce. With industry-aligned degrees, a growing research profile and flexible study pathways – both in Melbourne and through our international teaching partners in Asia – our students are confident knowing they will graduate with an internationally-recognised qualification from the University of Opportunity and Success.   OUR STUDENTS As one of Australia’s few dual-sector universities, we offer pathways from vocational education and training (VET) to higher education through our VET provider, Victoria University Polytechnic. Our diverse pathway options also include foundation studies, higher education diplomas and English language courses. More than 40,000 students are enrolled in our courses, delivered across an expansive urban footprint occupying eight Melbourne campuses – including three in the city centre – and a ninth campus in central Sydney. With an international student population of some 14,400 students from over 100 countries, including 8,800 offshore students studying VU qualifications at our partner universities in Asia, we are a globally-connected university. Our expansive alumni network spans 240,000 graduates, including 30,000 professionals living and working overseas. Notable alumni include VU teaching graduate Christian Williams, named one of the world’s top 50 educators in a competition dubbed the ‘Nobel Prize of teaching’.   RESEARCH AND ENGAGEMENT Alongside hundreds of innovative courses, we provide world-class research opportunities for our staff and students, particularly in our flagship areas of Health and Sport, and Sustainable Industries and Liveable Cities. Underpinning our research strengths, we collaborate with high-profile organisations such as the Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Australian Institute of Sport. State-of-the-art facilities, including a A$68 million Exercise and Sports Science Laboratory Precinct, enhance our profile. Central to our core teaching and research missions, industry and community engagement is the hallmark of a VU qualification. Our 5,000-plus connections encompass many forms – from work-integrated learning and research collaborations to sponsorship and international course delivery. Many of our courses are developed with, and accredited by, globally-recognised industry bodies including Engineers Australia, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport Australia, and the Australian Computer Society. Through innovative courses and modes of delivery, strong industry connections and a focus on workplace learning, VU students are equipped for success in a globalised world.
