The school is founded by the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Hong Kong (ELCHK) whose aim is to follow the Great Commandment of Jesus Christ (Matthew 28:16 - 20), and to imitate His example of teaching and serving. Addressing the physical and spiritual needs of our society and leads people to accept the Gospel, the Good news of Jesus Christ.Glocalized Curriculum integrates the local curriculum and the international education curricula to provide more global perspectives to students.

BSY opened in August 2014, offering a high quality international education to students in Early Years, Primary and Secondary. The school boasts more than 40 nationalities, making it a truly diverse setting in which to study and work. In December 2017 it joined the Nord Anglia Education family of schools, connecting students and staff in Nord Anglia schools across the world. The school has made significant investment in its building and educational resources over the years. As of August 2018 the school relocated to a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility in order to cater for the expansion into Year 10 and beyond. The campus is conveniently located close to Inya Lake on Taw Win Street, opposite Victoria hospital, and will be the first time Early Years, Primary and Secondary students will be located on a single site. BSY follows the English National Curriculum, adapted to an international environment. However, the school regards this as a minimum requirement and provides many additional opportunities for personal development. The school has, from the outset, made a great commitment to building strong academic departments, a broad range of extra and co-curricular activities and a supportive pastoral care structure.
