Graduate students at the Haas School of Business benefit from the school’s location near San Francisco, a hotbed of major businesses like Google and Visa. It’s a convenient place to find internships and jobs to supplement a business education. Through the Haas@Work program, students are assigned to projects at both local and global companies. Students earn an MBA in 21 months in the traditional program, or in three years if they attend part time in the evenings and on Saturdays. Berkeley Haas Executive MBA students strengthen their capacity to lead alongside world renowned faculty and top caliber classmates. Each cohort comprises about 70 professionals fostering a tight-knit community and lifelong friendships. EMBAs earn the same Berkeley Haas MBA degree and are taught by the same acclaimed Haas faculty as the full-time MBAs. EMBAs also have access to the full complement of Berkeley Haas academic support, career services, and student experience activities. A full 25 percent of this intensive, 22-month program includes week-long, in-the-field classes—from Silicon Valley to Washington, DC to overseas—that delve into topics from innovation and entrepreneurship to global business. The Berkeley MFE program is a 12-month program comprised of 80 full-time students —from many different countries—that have backgrounds in computer science, mathematics, statistics, engineering, data science, finance, economics, or other similar quantitative fields. Classroom instruction delivers the financial engineering knowledge and best practices students will put to use in the experiential learning that forms the heart of the program. The course of study integrates mathematical, statistical, machine learning and computer science methods with the theoretical frameworks and institutional settings in which they are applied through a 12-week internship and an applied finance project.

The UC—Berkeley School of Law does not use letter grades or GPAs. Students are also not ranked amongst their peers. The law school has pioneered curriculums like intellectual property law and technology-related law and offers specialized curricular programs in areas such as Energy and Clean Technology Law and Environmental Law. Students can tailor academics to their interests from the second semester onward. The school also offers unique survey courses, like Wine Law, and students can create their own electives, too.

Earning a master’s in engineering typically takes two years at Berkeley, but students can also opt for the accelerated Berkeley Engineering Professional Master’s Program, which graduates students in just one year. All graduate students must also complete two minors, which can include fields outside of the College of Engineering.

At UC-Berkeley’s Graduate School of Education, students complete degrees in one of three areas: Cognition and Development; Language and Literacy, Society and Culture; and Policy, Organization, Measurement, and Evaluation. The programs ready students to be teachers, administrators, and psychologists.
Students can earn a master’s degree in as little as a year; a master’s with a certification in two years; and doctoral degrees in 3½ to six years. There are no part-time degree options, but there is a schoolwide Leadership for Educational Equity program with courses for working professionals in the evenings and on weekends. Ph.D. candidates can enroll in the joint Doctoral Program in Special Education, offered in conjunction with San Francisco State University.
Students can get hands-on experience in more than 10 research centers, such as the Berkeley Evaluation and Assessment Research Center, known as BEAR for short, and the Center for the Study of Critical Transitions.
